The table shown here is from a Women's Industrial Council report entitled 'Home industries of women in London 1897'. Female investigators, including Clementina Black, visited 400 home or sweated workers employed in 35 different trades. Local reports on Shoreditch, Southwark, Bethnal Green and Woolwich were included. Shown here is a page from the report on those making women's and children's clothing. The report concludes that match-box making was the trade with the worst conditions while umbrella making had the best.
