London Trades Council minutes, 1874

At this meeting of the London Trades Council on 8 September, 1874, Mr King , delegate from the London Consolidated Bookbinders Union, reported the establishment of the Women's Trade Union League. He moved a motion in support, noting that women's low wages were a source of demoralization and immorality. There was a long discussion and, following a proposal by George Odger, it was decided to postpone a decision until the next meeting. Unfortunately, the postponed discussion had still not taken place by the end of the year.
